Year 7 Term 1 - Roman History and 1066

In Unit 1, we learn the skills of being a historian. Finding out what happened is only part of the story, we need to explain why, but also how we know.

We begin by finding out how the Roman Republic was founded, and why it grew. Pupils will then be introduced to Julius Caesar, through reading his life story in Plutarch's Life of Caesar. Ultimately, pupils will analyse and pick apart this key text, seeking to discover whether Plutarch was telling the truth.

During the second half of the term, pupils will investigate why 1066 is such an important year in British history. They will analyse who the claimants to the throne were in 1066 and who came out victorious. Pupils will also seek to uncover whether this victory was through luck, careful planning or oponents misfortune.

A full written exam completes the unit.
